Daniel Greenberg is running a 6-week storytelling project in Auroville from January 27 to March 3. The project is to engage residents to imagine what Auroville might be in 2068, and what it takes to get there. Stories are at the heart of how we see both the past and help us find the vision and energy to create a positive future.
What is your most hopeful vision for Auroville? Really — take a moment. Connect with your devotion to the dream of human unity and a city the Earth needs, and imagine Auroville genuinely realizing its potential by its 100th birthday in 2068. That’s 42 years from now — a lot can happen, especially these days! Do you have a clear sense of what your ideal Auroville might look and feel like — or even how we might get from here to there? If so, others really need to hear your story.
And if, instead, you find it hard to imagine a hopeful future at all, you’re not alone. Many are struggling right now — and longing to rekindle the inspiration that first brought them here. Either way, you’re warmly invited to join this six-week storytelling project, where we’ll support each other to craft positive, realistic, “future memories” from Auroville’s 100th birthday — and share them with the community on March 8th.
Dreaming into a viable future is hard. I know this personally. I’ve been writing a visionary science-fiction novel — much of it rooted in Auroville — and at times it truly feels like groping in the dark. That’s why we will use a range of tools: guided visualizations, creative and artistic exercises, story circles, and group dialogue — even playful prompts involving “time-travelers” from my book — to help us peer into that black box called the future.
My friend Alessandra, an award-winning filmmaker and animator, will also support us in creating imagery of ourselves and our community living into these possibilities. It’s going to be creative, meaningful — and fun. And to be clear: this is not about sides or political debate.
Aurovilians, Newcomers, and non-Aurovilians of all perspectives and statuses are welcome. The intention is to dream together, to transform despair into hope, and to take real steps toward a vibrant city living in harmony with one another and the planet.

We really look forward to hearing your stories.
Daniel first heard about Auroville in 1992, while living at Findhorn, and first started bringing college groups there in 1995. He is a Friend of Auroville and was a Newcomer – twice – but was pulled away by Covid and then by the Director position at Findhorn. He is now co-developing exchange and overland travel programs connecting Auroville and Findhorn with each other and communities en route between them with the dream of creating a Green Silk Road that can carry people, products and inspiration for a better world.
