I am Monica, an Aurovilian of Spanish nationality. I’ve been in Auroville for the last 13 years.

After five years of stability a new trip to India with my kids brought the wish to move to Auroville. We wanted more depth in our life, more deep meaning. We sold everything we could, abandoned our job, security, stability, beauty of nature and life, family… and we jumped towards the promising unknown.

All these years in Auroville have not been easy, full of challenges, difficulties and obstacles as well as good moments and beautiful people. My life has been very intense but also very rewarding. It is a place to grow and everything is a means for inner growth. Community is there, the support is there, sometimes in a very magical way.

Mother and Sri Aurobindo are here, guiding our lives.

All this filled my emptiness, my life, and gave me the direction I was always looking for.

Since I arrived in Auroville, I have worked in schools, five years in Future School, teaching science and Spanish to teenagers, four years in TLC (The Learning Community), science and math to the pre-teenagers and the last four years in Deepanam School where I created the Science Space, where kids from 8 to 14 years old come to explore, discover, experiment and marvel through science. It is a place of materials to make possible that learning science becomes something creative and full of magic. And through science they can discover themselves.

I feel grateful to live in Auroville, to have all these years in Auroville. I feel privileged and every day I thank you, life, for this beautiful gift because to live in a place that fosters inner life, inner growth and higher consciousness is the best gift.

But Auroville is in a baby stage, it has to evolve. Auroville is not a concept or an idea or utopia, it is all of us, it is a living community. We are growing together with our imperfections and our mistakes in search of something higher. Auroville is not a city, or a road, or a master plan; it is something real, a human organism that is slowly evolving.

And for Auroville to evolve, the community needs to have the community to experiment in a secure space without intimidation, pressure or fears.

Auroville is not the external manifestation we all can see; it is more subtle, it is what we don’t see but can feel when we are attuned with it. Its roots are deep down in its social web, in its collective. These roots are in each individual as part of the community, and in the collective where every individual has a role to play.

As for me, after all these years, I feel complete, nourished and at home. I feel full of health through  the wisdom of Sri Aurobindo, Mother and the community.
